In a significant development within the artificial intelligence sector, the Paris-based startup, Probabl, has successfully raised €13 million in seed funding. This funding round, co-led by the French venture capital firm Serena and hedge fund Capital Fund Management, is aimed at accelerating the development of the company’s open-source probabilistic forecasting tools. The investment was bolstered by contributions from Mozilla Ventures, the French Tech Souveraineté sovereign wealth fund, and Inria Participations, bringing Probabl’s total funding to approximately €18.5 million since its inception in 2023.
Founders and Vision
Founded by Yann Lechelle, a veteran in the tech industry and former CEO of Scaleway, along with key contributors to the widely-used machine learning library scikit-learn, including Gaël Varoquaux and Camille Troillard, Probabl aims to enhance the transparency and customization of AI forecasting systems. The startup’s platform empowers data scientists to scrutinize model assumptions, accurately quantify uncertainty, and implement forecasts securely in production environments.
Launch of Skore and Product Development
In addition to offering free tools, Probabl has recently introduced a premium product named Skore, designed specifically for enterprise-level data science teams. Currently in pilot testing with selected clients, Skore offers features essential for model lifecycle management, such as version control, monitoring, and optimization. This move positions Probabl within a competitive landscape of AI prediction and MLOps vendors, yet its strong ties to the scikit-learn project and commitment to open-source principles uniquely align it as a bridge between academic research and practical AI applications.
Future Plans and Expansion
With the newly acquired capital, Probabl is set to expand its engineering and product teams throughout Europe. The company plans to enhance the core capabilities of its platform, focusing on improving real-time forecasting accuracy and interpretability. Furthermore, Probabl aims to grow its user base and community engagement through various training programs and certifications.
