Oslo’s Riff Secures €14M to Enhance Automation Tools for Businesses

Riff, an Oslo-based startup, has raised €14 million in Series A funding to enhance its no-code automation platform for businesses, attracting major investors.

Riff Secures Significant Funding for Expansion
Oslo-based startup Riff has successfully completed a Series A funding round, raising €14 million, primarily led by the venture capital firm Northzone. This investment round also saw contributions from notable partners including Skyfall Ventures, Maki.vc, Sondo Capital, Global Founders Capital, and Illusian, the fund established by Ilkka Paananen, the founder of Supercell. With this latest funding, Riff has increased its total investments to €18.4 million, enabling the company to roll out enhanced features aimed at improving its automation capabilities.

Innovative Features to Streamline Automation
The recent funding will allow Riff to introduce advanced functionalities, including AI-powered agents designed to handle data synchronization, alerts, and multimedia tasks. Additionally, the platform will feature native integrations with widely used Software as a Service (SaaS) tools such as HubSpot, Google Drive, Notion, Stripe, and Mixpanel. This strategic move is expected to position Riff as a leader in the automation space, providing businesses with the tools necessary to enhance their operational efficiency without requiring extensive technical expertise.

The Concept of ‘Vibe Coding’
Founded in 2021 by Trygve Karper, Martin Røed, and Viral Shah, Riff originally operated under the name Databutton. The company specializes in enabling non-technical users to create sophisticated, data-driven applications without the need for coding skills. While many platforms prioritize rapid experimentation, Riff distinguishes itself by offering scalable, production-ready tools. The concept of “vibe coding” emphasizes creative and user-friendly application development while ensuring that the final products meet professional standards. This innovative approach addresses a significant challenge highlighted by an MIT study, which found that a staggering 95% of AI projects fail to reach production.

To facilitate the transition from idea to implementation, Riff provides users with readily available templates, expert guidance, and pre-built playbooks. Moreover, background agents allow users to implement significant updates directly from mobile devices, and domain whitelisting enhances security for internal applications.

Meeting the Demand for Automation
With over 150,000 users already onboard, Riff is witnessing growing adoption across various sectors. Companies, including Twilio and Cognite, are utilizing the platform to optimize workflows in fields such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and finance. The platform’s ability to revolutionize internal operations enables teams to swiftly deploy intelligent automations, significantly decreasing the reliance on manual tasks and boosting efficiency.

As businesses increasingly seek to leverage automation as a competitive edge, Riff positions itself as a vital link between creativity and enterprise reliability, facilitating the transformation of concepts into scalable solutions. In a statement reflecting on the impact of their platform, Trygve Karper, the CEO and Co-founder, expressed enthusiasm about the potential to reach more users. He remarked that many customers approach Riff after encountering frustrations with overly complex products. He believes that their modular building blocks allow users to experience immediate success.

Northzone’s Commitment to Riff’s Vision
Michiel Kotting, a partner at Northzone, commented on the transformative potential of “vibe coding,” noting that it empowers individuals to create, launch, and maintain applications without coding. He emphasized that Riff stands out due to its unwavering commitment to equipping users with the tools necessary for production-level applications. Both Kotting and Karper expressed excitement about the partnership and the shared vision of leveraging AI’s potential to drive significant business outcomes for everyday users.
