Investment to Propel AI Commercialisation
The Danish Industry Foundation has announced a significant investment of €7 million into the newly launched AI Lab, a platform designed to accelerate the commercialisation of artificial intelligence technologies in Denmark. This initiative, spearheaded by the BioInnovation Institute (BII), aims to address the lag in AI adoption among Danish companies despite the country’s advanced digital landscape.
Addressing the Commercialisation Gap
Since its inception in 2018, the BioInnovation Institute has successfully supported over 140 startups across various sectors, including life sciences and technology. The AI Lab is set to leverage this experience by providing selected startups with non-dilutive funding, access to unique datasets, computing power, and direct connections to potential customers.
“AI is no longer just a tool – it is an infrastructure that shapes how companies operate and compete,” said Thomas Hofman Bang, CEO of the Danish Industry Foundation. He emphasized that for Denmark to maintain its competitive edge, collaborations between academia, startups, and industry need to evolve significantly.
Tailored Support for Startups
The program will focus on identifying startups with strong technical capabilities, commercial viability, and alignment with Danish industry priorities. Each startup will receive customized support aimed at preparing them for future investment opportunities. The funding provided is non-dilutive, ensuring that entrepreneurs retain full ownership of their ventures.
Participants will gain invaluable access to datasets from various Danish companies and institutions, which are increasingly becoming essential for investors. Additionally, connections to BII’s industrial network will facilitate quick pilot project launches, often within weeks.
The Future of AI in Denmark
As Denmark continues to emerge as a leader in digital innovation, the establishment of the AI Lab marks a pivotal step towards bridging the existing commercialisation gap in AI technologies. With the support of the Danish Industry Foundation and the BioInnovation Institute, the AI Lab is poised to transform the landscape for AI startups in the country, fostering a new era of technological advancement and economic growth.
