LONDON — Primer, a London-based financial technology enterprise, secured $100 million in an oversubscribed Series C funding round led by the Belgian investment group Sofina on Tuesday, bringing the total capital raised by the company to $170 million since it was established in 2020.
Gabriel Le Roux and Paul Anthony, two former Braintree alumni, founded the enterprise to integrate the entire transaction lifecycle from initial checkout to final payout for large merchants. By consolidating diverse payment processors, bank acquirers, and specialized fraud tools into a single platform, the company addresses severe structural complexities faced by enterprise merchants. The organization launched its proprietary Primer Companion agent in late 2025 to autonomously optimize payment routes and reduce manual oversight for corporate clients.
The United States market currently generates roughly 20 percent of total income for the fintech firm, but corporate executives plan to aggressively increase that regional revenue share to over one-third by the year 2028. To support this strategic expansion across North American territories, Primer intends to hire up to 50 new employees in the United States over the multi-year growth phase to service surging local merchant demand.
Existing enterprise clients processing billions of transactions annually through the multi-acquirer software infrastructure include prominent global consumer brands such as GetYourGuide, Dialpad, and Lime, according to corporate disclosures. Aakash Kapoor, speaking for financial backer Peak XV Partners, said that the comprehensive data management capabilities offer global enterprises a clear and unified view of their daily payment operations.
Le Roux said in a statement that the $100 million funding injection will accelerate core product development as the global payments industry approaches a pivotal turning point for transaction technology, building on the $170 million total raised to date. The co-founder stated that in the next few years, every payment decision in a large business will be initiated, optimized, or audited by software.
