NP Company Raises €6 Million for Innovative AI Simulators
In a significant development for the tech startup landscape, NP Company, a Paris-based startup, has successfully raised €6 million in pre-seed funding. This funding round was led by Partech and saw participation from notable investors including the co-founders of Mistral AI, Dataiku, and Artefact.
Transforming Engineering Simulations
Founded in 2025 by PhD researchers Emmanuel Menier and Matthieu Nastorg, NP Company aims to revolutionize the engineering simulation market, which is projected to grow to $30 billion by 2030. The startup focuses on developing AI-native physics simulators that can provide results in seconds, compared to traditional methods that can take days.
The rapid results are achieved through transformer models pre-trained on industrial physics, a technology that has already demonstrated remarkable speedups in simulations. According to Menier, “Engineering is the next frontier for AI, not the next chatbot. We’re removing that bottleneck, enabling engineers to concentrate on solving critical challenges rather than waiting for simulations to finish.”
Mistral AI’s Strategic Moves
This funding round is particularly intriguing given the recent acquisition of Emmi AI by Mistral AI. Just thirteen days after Mistral’s acquisition announcement, the co-founders of Mistral chose to invest in NP Company, which operates in a similar space. This raises questions about the motivations behind their investment.
Three potential reasons have emerged: a belief in the market’s capacity to support multiple approaches, a strategic hedge by backing a competitor’s competitor, or a deep-seated trust in the founding team stemming from their shared origins at Inria, the research institute that also incubated Mistral AI.
Investments in a Competitive Landscape
With the global simulation software market expected to reach $36.22 billion by 2030, NP Company enters a competitive field that includes well-funded players like PhysicsX and Rescale. However, NP’s unique approach of rebuilding the simulation engine using foundation models may provide it with a distinct advantage over its competitors.
As the landscape evolves, the question remains: can NP Company carve out its niche and thrive, especially with the backing of influential investors? The journey ahead is sure to be closely watched by industry experts and investors alike.
