Nyobolt Achieves Unicorn Status with $60M Series C Funding

Nyobolt Reaches New Heights in Battery Technology

Nyobolt, a cutting-edge battery technology startup based in Cambridge, has officially achieved unicorn status after raising $60 million in a Series C funding round led by Symbotic, a Nasdaq-listed AI robotics company. This investment brings Nyobolt’s total funding to approximately $160 million and elevates its valuation to $1 billion.

Innovative Technology Driving Growth

Founded in 2019 by Dr. Sai Shivareddy and Professor Clare Grey, a distinguished fellow of the Royal Society and an expert in battery materials at the University of Cambridge, Nyobolt has developed a novel battery technology that utilizes specialized anode materials and advanced cell design. This innovation enables ultrafast charging within seconds and offers a lifespan that is at least ten times greater than conventional lithium-ion batteries.

The significance of Nyobolt’s technology is evident in its application within Symbotic’s warehouse robots, which have reported six times more energy capacity than their previous ultracapacitors. Furthermore, these batteries are 40% lighter, allowing the robots to operate continuously without the frequent need for recharging.

Addressing Modern Infrastructure Needs

Dr. Shivareddy asserts, “Nyobolt is enabling the always-on, always-moving infrastructure that physical AI demands. Our technology delivers a powerful trifecta: improved performance, exceptional durability, and a more sustainable operation.” This is particularly critical as enterprises deploying autonomous systems cannot afford downtime.

Nyobolt is not only revolutionizing robotics but is also making strides in the data center sector. As large-scale AI workloads create sudden power surges, Nyobolt’s instant-power technology fills a vital need, paving the way for a new market segment.

Future Prospects and Market Position

While the next-generation battery market is becoming increasingly competitive—with companies like StoreDot and Enovix leading the charge—Nyobolt differentiates itself with its unique combination of ultrafast charging, high cycle life, and robotics-specific integration.

Looking ahead, the recent funding will support Nyobolt’s development projects, manufacturing capabilities, and business partnerships, including a new agreement in India to provide over 100MW of off-grid AI data center and power management systems. With a growing workforce of approximately 115 employees, Nyobolt is set to make significant impacts across the warehouse, humanoid robotics, and data center sectors.
