Orion, a company specializing in AI-powered risk intelligence, has announced a substantial funding round of $3.5 million to enhance its platform designed to assist enterprises in identifying and responding to real-world threats before they escalate. The latest funding initiative was led by Dynamo Ventures, with notable contributions from Bravo Victor Venture Capital, Techstars, and Service Provider Capital. In addition to private investment, Orion has obtained a government grant from Puerto Rico, which will support its growth and innovation efforts.
The platform aims to revolutionize physical risk management, traditionally reliant on fragmented data and manual analysis. By integrating millions of data points—ranging from social media activity and local news to geospatial and weather data—Orion provides actionable insights into potential disruptions, thereby equipping businesses with the foresight necessary to mitigate risks effectively.
The Cost of Inadequate Risk Management
According to industry estimates, organizations lose over $420 billion each year due to preventable losses, with each major incident inflicting an average operational impact of approximately $1.9 billion. Many enterprises are investing heavily—over $750,000 annually—on disjointed tools and outsourced analysts, yet they often overlook critical early warning indicators. Rahul Thayil, the founder and CEO of Orion, emphasizes that their platform is engineered to deliver accurate early warnings. He noted that the team comprises experts trained at esteemed institutions such as NYU, MIT, Oxford, and Cambridge, working to turn global volatility into clear insights.
The funding will facilitate expansion across various sectors, including supply chains and defense networks, allowing organizations to anticipate and react to disruptions proactively.
Granular Threat Prediction and Response
Orion’s proprietary methodology generates real-time risk scores within a half-mile radius of any asset, meticulously filtering vast amounts of information to highlight only the most pertinent details for each organization. This granular approach enables the platform to predict and quantify threats such as political unrest or environmental disturbances several days in advance, providing teams with the necessary time to adjust operations, relocate personnel, or enhance security measures.
What distinguishes Orion from traditional systems is its capability to map and monitor entire supply chains in real time, adapting to the responses of various teams to disruptions. The internal framework, known as STAN (Spatiotemporal Adaptive Network), quantifies uncertainty and transforms subjective signals into understandable confidence scores, which decision-makers can rely on for timely actions.

In addition to its innovative technology, Orion offers a cost-effective solution. Unlike conventional systems that can exceed $100,000 per site, its compute-based architecture allows for a per-asset pricing model of only $1,000 annually, making comprehensive risk intelligence accessible to companies of all sizes. Jon Bradford, Managing Partner at Dynamo Ventures, remarked on the necessity of Orion in today’s operational landscape, highlighting its role in providing real-time visibility into risks that affect supply chains globally.
As Orion plans to further expand its platform capabilities, it aims to create the largest corpus of risk and reaction data in the world, which could eventually lead to automated response systems during crises. The company’s efforts are not merely focused on improving risk intelligence but are also geared towards establishing a foundational infrastructure that will enable organizations to operate safely in an increasingly unpredictable environment.
