Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, sustained multiple injuries in a car accident in New Hampshire. The accident occurred late Saturday evening when the vehicle he was a passenger in, a rented Ford Bronco driven by his spokesperson Ted Goodman, was rear-ended by a Honda HR-V.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage, impacting the highway median. Giuliani, 81, was transported to a nearby trauma center for treatment of a fractured thoracic vertebra, lacerations, contusions, and injuries to his left arm and leg.
Goodman and the 19-year-old driver of the Honda HR-V also received medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries. New Hampshire State Police are investigating the incident but have not yet filed any charges.
Before the collision, Giuliani had stopped to assist a woman who reported a domestic violence incident. After contacting the authorities, he proceeded and was involved in the accident shortly after merging onto the highway. Authorities confirmed that the incidents were unrelated.
Giuliani’s head of security, Michael Ragusa, reported that Giuliani is recovering well and in good spirits. He emphasized that the crash was not a targeted attack. Andrew Giuliani, Rudy Giuliani’s son, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.
The accident comes after a tumultuous period in Giuliani’s career. He served as President Donald Trump’s personal attorney and was a prominent figure in challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election. This led to legal challenges, including a significant defamation judgment against him.
New Hampshire State Police declined to comment further on the domestic violence incident report or Giuliani’s involvement. Goodman did not respond to requests for comment, and Giuliani’s team did not offer additional details regarding the crash.
