Blackstone increases exposure to Anthropic
Blackstone has raised its total stake in Anthropic to roughly $1 billion as the artificial intelligence company’s latest financing pushes its valuation to about $350 billion, according to industry reports. The move underscores continued investor appetite for top-tier AI labs even as private-market valuations reach new highs.
Round reportedly expands beyond initial targets
Reports indicate Blackstone is adding an additional $200 million commitment to Anthropic’s ongoing round. The broader raise has reportedly exceeded its original $10 billion target and is now expected to bring in more than $20 billion. At the reported $350 billion valuation, Anthropic would be valued at nearly double its prior mark from less than a year ago.
Major investors cited in the round include Coatue Management, GIC, and Iconiq Capital, each reportedly committing more than $1 billion. Strategic backers including NVIDIA and Microsoft are also participating, while Abu Dhabi’s MGX is said to be close to joining.
Capital sourced from retail-focused fund
Blackstone’s increased allocation is reportedly being drawn primarily from its retail-oriented Blackstone Private Equity Strategies Fund (BXPE). The firm previously invested during Anthropic’s earlier raise of about $13 billion at a reported $183 billion valuation, making the latest commitment a significant step-up in exposure.
Product momentum and competitive positioning
Anthropic develops the Claude family of generative AI models and has positioned itself around reliability and enterprise use cases. The company recently introduced Opus 4.6, its latest flagship model, claiming improvements in reasoning, coding, and complex text generation.
The launch comes as investors reassess traditional software names amid concerns that generative AI will automate functions such as coding, analysis, and document drafting. Anthropic has also reportedly more than doubled its revenue run rate in recent months, reinforcing expectations that enterprise AI adoption will continue to accelerate.
