A Landmark Event in European Innovation
The eighth edition of the Valencia Digital Summit (VDS 2025) took place in the iconic City of Arts and Sciences, solidifying Valencia‘s reputation as a premier European hub for innovation. Over two days, more than 12,000 participants, including founders, investors, and business leaders from 120 different nations, convened under the banner “Collaborate Today. Transform Tomorrow.” This year’s event, organized by Startup Valencia, emphasized the importance of collaboration, purpose, and technological advancement in driving meaningful change across various sectors.
Record Participation and Diverse Discussions
The summit achieved a remarkable milestone with 45% of attendees coming from outside of Spain, marking a 41% increase in international participation compared to the previous year. Present at the summit were over 3,000 startups, 1,500 corporations, and 800 investors managing assets exceeding €300 billion. A comprehensive agenda featured 600 speakers spread across seven thematic stages, covering topics from DeepTech and artificial intelligence to sustainability, healthcare, and aerospace innovation. These discussions aimed to position Europe as a leader in technological advancements for the next decade.
Innovation Rooted in Community Resilience
The 2025 summit’s theme was notably influenced by the community’s response to the devastating effects of Storm DANA in 2024. Juan Luis Hortelano, President of Startup Valencia, highlighted how the local tech community demonstrated resilience and compassion through initiatives like DANA Help and Adopt a School. This emphasis on a human-centered approach was reflected throughout the event, with presentations such as “Women Paint Too” by Pilar Mateo, promoting creativity and innovation among women in technology.

VDS 2025 featured a diverse array of speakers from various backgrounds. Notable figures included actor and investor Kelly Rutherford, who discussed the intersection of business and purpose, and former England football captain Sol Campbell, who shared insights on leadership and resilience. The summit also featured contributions from prominent researchers and startup founders, who collectively illustrated Europe’s potential for creating and scaling globally impactful startups.
Focus on Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Growth
The role of artificial intelligence was a pivotal focus during the summit. Experts like Christian Teichmann and Iñaki Berenguer analyzed AI’s transformative effects on investment strategies, healthcare, and innovation frameworks. Additionally, the Scalability Day event, supported by Adigital and EsTech, highlighted 22 European scale-ups experiencing significant growth, underscoring the maturity of Europe‘s tech ecosystem.
Valencia’s Commitment to Innovation
At the opening ceremony, Mª José Catalá, Valencia‘s Mayor, reaffirmed the City Council’s commitment to supporting the VDS for an additional two years, emphasizing its role in Valencia’s evolution as a tech capital. The latest report from the Valencian Startup Observatory revealed that the region is home to 1,689 active startups, marking an 11.3% year-over-year growth, with substantial investments secured in 2025.
Acknowledging Excellence in Innovation
The VDS International Startup Competition recognized outstanding contributions, with Spacebackend from Luxembourg and Zibra AI from Ukraine taking top honors in their respective categories. Special accolades were given to initiatives that showcased significant impact and recovery efforts post-DANA, as well as to Iñaki Berenguer, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to global entrepreneurship.
A Strong Network of Support
VDS 2025 was made possible through the support of key sponsors, including Banco Santander and Valencia Innovation Capital, along with partnerships with the e-Residency program of Estonia. The event also garnered backing from major technology players like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google for Startups, reinforcing its position as a vital platform for innovation in Europe.
