China hosted a significant military parade in Beijing on Wednesday, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The event drew a considerable number of international leaders, many from nations considered allies of China.

Chinese President Xi Jinping presided over the ceremony, alongside notable guests including Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The three leaders were prominently featured, observing the parade from a viewing platform overlooking Tiananmen Square.

The presence of Putin and Kim alongside Xi was interpreted by some observers as a demonstration of unity against the United States and the existing international order.

In contrast, many leaders from the United States, Western Europe, Japan, and India were notably absent. Some countries, such as South Korea and Singapore, sent lower-ranking officials.

The guest list, however, reflected China‘s expanding influence across the Global South and in emerging economies. A significant number of leaders from Asia, Africa, and South America attended the parade.

A large contingent of Central Asian leaders, encompassing Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, attended the event, along with Mongolia‘s president.

Africa was represented by leaders from Zimbabwe and the Republic of Congo. Cuba was the sole American nation represented by its head of state.
