Throne Labs Secures $15 Million Series B for Nationwide Expansion

Throne Labs has announced a $15 million Series B funding round led by Brentwood Associates to enhance smart restroom facilities across the U.S.

Throne Labs’ Funding Boost for Smart Restroom Infrastructure

In a significant move to enhance public restroom services in the United States, Throne Labs has successfully closed the initial phase of its Series B funding, raising $15 million. This funding round, spearheaded by Brentwood Associates and supplemented by contributions from Uncorrelated Ventures, Dipalo Ventures, Rabil Ventures, and Arpinine Management, aims to expand the company’s innovative smart restroom network, which is already operational in major cities such as Washington, D.C., the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and across Michigan.

Addressing the Public Restroom Shortage

According to data from The Public Toilet Index, the United States currently has a stark shortage of public restrooms, averaging only eight facilities for every 100,000 residents. In response, Throne Labs has developed a network of standalone smart restrooms designed to improve user experience by prioritizing comfort, cleanliness, and accessibility. Each restroom unit features essential amenities such as running water sinks, flushing toilets, baby-changing stations, and complimentary menstrual products, all while ensuring ADA compliance.

Equipped with 21 sensors, these units offer real-time data on cleanliness and usage, enabling Throne Labs to implement an on-demand servicing model that maintains high standards of hygiene and functionality.

Plans for National Expansion

The newly acquired funds will facilitate the growth of Throne Labs from its current operations in four regions and 20 cities to a broader national presence. The company’s restrooms are strategically placed in areas like parks, downtown districts, waterfronts, and event venues, particularly where traditional restroom facilities are either limited or financially burdensome to maintain. Notably, several prominent transit agencies, including AC Transit, VTA, Caltrain, and LA Metro, have partnered with Throne Labs to enhance access to clean and reliable restroom facilities for commuters and staff.

As part of its current initiatives, Throne Labs is fulfilling a substantial contract with LA Metro, which includes the deployment of 64 restroom units over a four-year timeline. This project plays a crucial role in ensuring accessibility and hygiene in the lead-up to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Leadership Insights on Future Growth

Fletcher Wilson, the CEO and co-founder of Throne Labs, emphasized the value proposition that their services offer to municipalities, highlighting the flexible deployment and improved user experience that comes without the traditional constraints of restroom infrastructure. He noted that the company has yet to lose a municipal client, reflecting a strong commitment to providing clean and free public restrooms across the country.

Echoing this sentiment, Eric Reiter, a partner at Brentwood Associates, remarked on the significant infrastructure challenge that Throne Labs is tackling. He noted the widespread appreciation from cities for the company’s focus on cleanliness, reliability, and professional service. Reiter expressed confidence in Wilson and his team’s vision for transforming urban services, reinforcing Throne Labs as a notable player in enhancing public facilities nationwide.

As Throne Labs continues to grow, its innovative approach to public restroom access promises to redefine expectations and improve the quality of urban living across the United States.
