Texas Monthly‘s Docuseries Returns to PBS

Texas Monthly Presents, a docuseries showcasing Texas Monthly's storytelling, returns to Texas PBS stations with 13 new episodes. The series explores diverse Texas themes, building on the success of its initial four-episode run. Viewers can watch on Sundays at 6 p.m. CT or stream online.

Thirteen new episodes of the docuseries Texas Monthly Presents premiered on Texas PBS stations on August 31st. The half-hour program features stories from Texas Monthly writers, covering various aspects of Texas life.

The series builds upon the success of its initial four-episode run in May 2025, which focused on topics such as the evolution of historical sites and the cultural significance of barbecue and taco joints. Early viewership data indicated strong growth, leading to the decision to produce a full season.

Ross McCammon, editor-in-chief of Texas Monthly, expressed excitement about adapting magazine articles for television. He emphasized the ability to reach a wider audience across the large and economically significant state of Texas and the enhanced emotional impact of the stories in this format.

Kierstan Schwab, executive director of Texas PBS, highlighted the partnership between Texas PBS and Texas Monthly, stating that it was a natural fit given Texas Monthly‘s award-winning reputation for storytelling.

The new episodes cover a wide range of topics, including environmental issues, cultural preservation, and the challenges and triumphs of individuals and communities across Texas. One episode will focus on the making of the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ list, while another will explore a new wave of Tejano cuisine. Other stories will feature a librarian’s fight to protect an East Texas forest, a hunter’s efforts to control wild hogs, and the story of an Egypt-born pitmaster making his mark in Texas barbecue. The series also includes a segment on students from the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired pursuing their musical ambitions.

The episodes will air weekly on Sundays at 6 p.m. CT on various Texas PBS stations. They will also be available for streaming on PBS.org and the PBS app.
