One Art Space gallery in Tribeca, New York, is hosting “The Authenticity,” a group exhibition showcasing the works of 17 artists. The exhibition is curated by renowned graffiti artist Cope2 and includes pieces from prominent figures such as Shepard Fairey, Danny Cortes, and Stash, among others.
The exhibition’s curator, Cope2, explained his vision. He highlighted the artists’ authenticity, emphasizing their diverse inspirations while maintaining unique artistic identities. He noted the artists’ connections to each other and the broader art world, drawing parallels to his own career and influences.
The artwork itself is described as visually cohesive, featuring bold colors and striking imagery. Pieces range from Shepard Fairey‘s iconic OBEY imagery to the neon-pink abstractions of Eye Sticker and the captivating graffiti mailbox creations of Mqizm. Cope2‘s own pieces are presented alongside these diverse styles, creating a unified yet varied collection.
Gallery co-owners Mei Fung and MaryAnn Giella McCulloh expressed their excitement about the exhibition, particularly Shepard Fairey‘s return to One Art Space after a decade. Shepard Fairey himself expressed enthusiasm for participating in the show and sharing the space with a strong roster of New York artists.
The exhibition aims to present raw, unfiltered artistic experiences, contrasting with what the organizers see as a prevalent lack of authenticity in the contemporary world. The show celebrates self-expression and the connections forged through genuine artistic creation.
Cope2‘s extensive background in graffiti art, beginning in the South Bronx in 1978, adds significant weight to the exhibition. His prolific career has spanned over 35 years, establishing him as a prominent figure in street art and contributing to its broader recognition.
“The Authenticity” runs from September 5th to 18th, with VIP and opening receptions planned for September 4th and 5th respectively. The gallery is located at 23 Warren Street, Tribeca, NY 10007.
