Omdia Predicts Booming Sony Gaming Accessory Market

Omdia forecasts the global gaming peripherals and accessories market to exceed $20 billion by 2025, driven by high-end products like Sony's DualSense Edge controller. Growth will continue, reaching nearly $25 billion by 2030, with gaming monitors leading the charge.

The global market for video game peripherals and accessories is poised for significant expansion, according to new research from Omdia. The firm projects that total spending will surpass $20 billion by 2025, and nearly $25 billion by 2030.

This robust growth contrasts with the relatively stagnant performance of the overall video game market. While spending on games themselves has increased only modestly, the peripherals and accessories sector has experienced a surge. Omdia attributes this disparity to several factors.

A key driver of this growth is the gaming monitor segment. Omdia analysts predict gaming monitors will account for nearly half of the market revenue by 2025, and an even larger share by 2030. This segment is fueled by increasing consumer demand for higher resolutions and faster refresh rates.

Other accessory categories, including gamepads from manufacturers like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, gaming headsets, keyboards, mice, and specialized accessories such as steering wheels, are also expected to see substantial growth.

Dom Tait, Research Director of Omdia‘s Games team, highlighted the contrasting fortunes of game developers and peripheral manufacturers. He noted that the difficulty in raising game prices to keep pace with inflation has impacted developers’ profitability. However, manufacturers of gaming peripherals and accessories have successfully introduced premium products at higher price points, emphasizing the enhanced gaming experience they provide. Products such as Sony‘s DualSense Edge controller exemplify this trend, offering noticeable improvements over their predecessors.
