Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden recently fulfilled a long-held ambition: buying his grandmother a house. The 22-year-old NFL player purchased a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Houston, Texas. The property is located just two miles from where Golden spent his childhood, and even sits on the same street as his high school.
Golden explained that the idea to purchase a home for his grandmother stemmed from a difficult time in his youth. He recalled the family’s loss of their previous home when he was around 11 or 12 years old. At that time, he vowed to one day repay his grandmother’s support by providing her with a home of her own.
The location of the new home held special significance for Golden. He remembered playing basketball in the area during his youth. He also noted that the home’s proximity to his former high school would be beneficial to his cousin. An important factor in his home search was finding a property with a suitable backyard for his grandmother’s relaxation.
The gift was a complete surprise. Golden described his grandmother’s emotional reaction, noting her tears of joy and prolonged embrace. He emphasized that the home’s features, including a large kitchen island, cater to his grandmother’s love of cooking.
Golden‘s motivation for the purchase extended beyond sentimental value. He expressed a deep sense of gratitude towards his grandmother for her past contributions to his life, attributing his current success partly to her support. The home purchase, he said, was a way to give back.
Looking toward his own future real estate plans, Golden expressed interest in acquiring a large ranch, potentially including horses and other animals. He considered this a personal goal for the future. Golden worked with Nimesh Patel, Broker/Owner of ReMax Fine Properties in Sugar Land, TX, to locate the property. The athlete played college football for the Houston Cougars and Texas Longhorns before being drafted by the Packers in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
