LRE Launches First Solar Initiative in Tennessee with Ridgely Project

LRE's new 177-MW solar project in Tennessee promises economic growth and clean energy solutions while enhancing community welfare and safety.

LRE Completes Ridgely Solar Project in Lake County, Tennessee

LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) has officially inaugurated its first solar energy project in Tennessee, marking a significant step in the company’s efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio across the United States. The newly operational Ridgely Solar facility, boasting a capacity of 177 megawatts (MW), is situated in Lake County, approximately 100 miles north of Memphis. This project not only contributes to the state’s energy grid but also reinforces LRE’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions that benefit local communities.

The Ridgely Solar project is designed to supply power to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) under a long-term agreement, enabling TVA to provide reliable and clean energy to meet the increasing demands of the region. In addition to its energy contributions, the facility is expected to generate about $3 million in property tax revenue throughout its operational life, providing essential funding for local schools and public services. During its construction phase, the project created around 700 jobs, significantly impacting the local workforce and economy.

Community Engagement and Support Initiatives

Beyond its role in energy generation, Ridgely Solar has established itself as a proactive partner within the Lake County community. The project has invested in various local initiatives, including funding scholarships at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Northwest and contributing to the construction of an inclusive playground for children with disabilities. Moreover, it has aided the American Red Cross Mid-South in its flood relief efforts, underscoring LRE’s dedication to enhancing community welfare and safety.

The project has also made strides in improving public safety infrastructure, providing resources for first responders, and supporting The Nest, a daycare service at Margaret Newton Elementary that offers free childcare to families in the area. This comprehensive approach highlights LRE’s intention to not only deliver energy solutions but also to foster a sustainable and supportive environment for residents.

Innovative Engineering and Partnerships

The engineering behind Ridgely Solar showcases innovative technologies designed to optimize performance while minimizing environmental impact. LRE collaborated with leading U.S. companies such as Nextracker and First Solar to implement advanced solutions. The use of Nextracker’s NX Horizon-XTR™ solar tracker systems, combined with First Solar’s cutting-edge thin-film photovoltaic modules, ensures high reliability and efficiency while reducing the need for extensive earthwork and steel, thus preserving local habitats and enhancing domestic supply chains.

Eran Mahrer, the Chief Commercial Officer at LRE, emphasized the significance of this project, stating that it not only delivers dependable energy but also stimulates investment in the community. He noted the importance of fostering relationships with U.S. technology leaders and prioritizing domestic manufacturing, which ultimately supports local jobs and enhances energy security for the nation.

Mayor Danny Cook of Lake County echoed these sentiments, highlighting how projects like Ridgely Solar are pivotal for expanding opportunities and promoting sustainable growth within the community.
