Linq lands $20M to power AI assistants inside everyday texting
US-based startup Linq has raised $20 million in a Series A round as it pivots to help AI assistants operate directly inside mainstream messaging channels such as iMessage, RCS, and SMS. The round was led by TQ Ventures, with participation from Mucker Capital and a group of angel investors.
The company said the new capital will be used to expand headcount, refine its product, and develop a stronger go-to-market strategy aimed at AI developers and businesses building conversational experiences. The move positions Linq as infrastructure for companies that want AI-driven interactions to happen where users already spend time: in their native texting apps.
From digital business cards to modern business messaging
Linq was founded in Birmingham, Alabama by former Shipt executives Elliott Potter, Patrick Sullivan, and Jared Mattsson. The startup initially launched as a digital business card and lead-capture tool designed for sales teams. Like many early-stage companies, it iterated through multiple product directions before finding a clearer pull from the market.
In 2025, Linq says it began seeing strong demand from businesses looking to modernize customer communication. Rather than relying on basic, one-dimensional SMS blasts, companies wanted richer, more natural interactions that resemble how people text friends and family. Linq’s platform evolved to help businesses move beyond plain texts into more feature-rich messaging experiences across channels such as iMessage and RCS.
The company’s pitch centered on authenticity: business texts often feel templated or transactional, but messaging can be more conversational when it supports elements like images, emojis, voice notes, group chats, and threaded replies. Linq built an API layer intended to make those capabilities easier for businesses to adopt without building custom integrations from scratch.
AI agents drive the next pivot
As consumer and enterprise interest in AI assistants accelerated, Linq’s direction shifted again. The company points to heightened attention following the launch of Poke, an AI assistant that enables users to complete tasks and manage schedules directly inside iMessage. As products like Poke gained visibility, Linq says it began receiving inbound requests from AI startups that wanted to deploy assistants within messaging apps rather than forcing users to download separate standalone applications.
That demand prompted Linq to reposition itself as messaging infrastructure for AI-driven conversations. Instead of being primarily a tool for businesses to send richer messages, the company is now emphasizing its role as a bridge between AI systems and the messaging environments where users already communicate.
Why messaging-native AI matters
For many AI startups, distribution is a major challenge: building an assistant is one thing, but getting users to adopt a new app is another. Messaging-native assistants aim to reduce friction by meeting users in familiar interfaces. Linq’s bet is that an infrastructure layer that standardizes how AI agents send and receive messages across iMessage, RCS, and SMS can help developers focus on the assistant’s intelligence rather than channel-specific plumbing.
It also reflects a broader shift in conversational software, where the interface is less about a dedicated app and more about embedding automation into existing communication streams. In that model, the “front door” for an assistant could be a text thread rather than a home screen icon.
Growth metrics and scale
Since pivoting toward AI messaging infrastructure, Linq reported rapid expansion. The company said its customer base has grown 132% quarter over quarter, while existing customers have increased usage, with average account growth of 34%.
Linq added that AI agents built on its platform now reach roughly 134,000 monthly active users. Across its network, the company said it processes more than 30 million messages per month and has seen strong retention, reporting no churn to date.
While the company did not disclose valuation or detailed revenue figures, the metrics suggest Linq is attempting to demonstrate product-market fit both with developers building AI agents and with businesses that want more modern customer messaging experiences.
What the funding will support next
With the Series A financing, Linq plans to scale its team and invest in product development. The company also signaled a more deliberate go-to-market motion geared toward AI builders, which may include clearer developer tooling, documentation, and partnerships with companies creating conversational agents.
In practice, success will likely depend on how effectively Linq can navigate the complexity of messaging ecosystems. Supporting iMessage, RCS, and SMS at scale can involve technical constraints, carrier relationships, and evolving platform policies. At the same time, competition is increasing as more startups and established communications platforms race to become the default layer for AI-enabled customer interactions.
Competitive landscape: the race for AI conversation infrastructure
Linq’s strategy puts it in a growing market segment at the intersection of SaaS, communications APIs, and AI agent deployment. As businesses experiment with AI-driven customer support, scheduling, sales outreach, and internal workflows, the demand for reliable, compliant, and channel-aware messaging infrastructure is rising.
