KKR Unveils Galaxy Container Solutions, Expanding Shipping Finance

KKR has launched Galaxy Container Solutions, a new platform for global container leasing and financing, backed by significant capital investment.

KKR Introduces Galaxy Container Solutions

On October 20, 2025, the global investment firm KKR announced the establishment of a new initiative named Galaxy Container Solutions. This innovative platform is designed to provide comprehensive leasing and financing options for marine containers, catering to shipping companies across the globe. With an initial commitment of $500 million from KKR-managed credit funds, Galaxy aims to leverage the firm’s extensive experience in asset-based finance (ABF) to meet the dynamic needs of the shipping industry.

Leadership and Industry Expertise

At the helm of Galaxy Container Solutions is Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Gannon, alongside Chief Operating Officer Adrian Dunner. Both executives bring a wealth of experience, having previously co-founded Global Container International, which was recognized as the seventh-largest marine container lessor worldwide prior to its acquisition by Triton International. They will be joined by Stephen Controulis, former Chief Financial Officer of GCI, as well as a team of seasoned professionals specializing in various aspects of container leasing, including management, finance, and operations.

Gannon expressed optimism about the timing of Galaxy’s launch, noting that current market conditions, characterized by lessor consolidation and robust demand for containers, present a favorable environment for new entrants in the sector. He stated that with KKR’s backing, Galaxy is well-positioned to provide reliable and adaptable solutions to meet the evolving requirements of its clients.

Strategic Expansion into Container Leasing

According to Daniel Pietrzak, a partner and the Global Head of Private Credit at KKR, Galaxy Container Solutions marks a significant expansion of KKR’s ABF strategy, which was initiated in 2016. The firm has effectively managed to grow its ABF assets to over $75 billion, focusing on four main themes: consumer and mortgage finance, commercial finance, hard assets, and contractual cash flows. Pietrzak emphasized that the container leasing sector offers attractive investment opportunities that are crucial to the infrastructure of global trade, highlighting the strategic importance of this new venture.

KKR’s broad investment approach allows for flexibility across various industries, including aviation, real estate, and equipment leasing, among others. With 19 captive ABF platforms in operation, KKR is well-equipped to source and structure investments, ensuring its clients receive tailored financial solutions.

In summary, the launch of Galaxy Container Solutions represents a strategic move by KKR into a critical area of global commerce. With a robust leadership team and significant capital investment, the new platform aims to address the challenges and demands of shipping companies worldwide, reinforcing KKR’s commitment to supporting essential global trade infrastructure.
