Google Cloud closes $32B deal for Wiz
Google has completed its $32 billion acquisition of New York-based cloud security company Wiz, folding the fast-growing cybersecurity platform into Google Cloud as competition intensifies around cloud and AI-era security.
The acquisition lands as enterprises and governments move more critical workloads to the cloud while accelerating the rollout of generative AI tools—trends that have expanded attack surfaces and added pressure on already-stretched security teams managing complex multicloud environments.
Wiz to remain cross-cloud and keep its brand
Wiz said it will retain its brand and continue supporting customers across major cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud, and Google Cloud. The company’s cloud-agnostic approach has been central to its appeal, particularly for large organisations that rely on multiple cloud providers and prefer security tools that operate consistently across them.
Assaf Rappaport, co-founder and CEO of Wiz, said joining Google Cloud will help the company scale its mission of protecting customers “at machine speed,” while maintaining an open approach across cloud and code environments.
Why Google wanted Wiz
Google said the deal strengthens its ability to help organisations manage risk across code, cloud infrastructure and runtime environments, pointing to Wiz’s reputation for simplifying cloud risk identification and accelerating response.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, said the combination is intended to make it easier for organisations to “innovate with confidence” as cloud adoption and generative AI usage expand. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added that the goal is a unified security platform that reduces operational complexity and improves multicloud protection in the AI era.
Focus on AI-linked threats
The companies said the combined offering will prioritise faster detection, prevention and response to threats—including risks tied to AI systems—such as protecting AI models from attacks and using AI to streamline investigations for security teams.
