EU-Startups Summit opens applications for 2026 Pitch Competition finals
The EU-Startups Summit has opened applications for its 2026 Pitch Competition, inviting Europe’s early-stage founders to compete for a prize package valued at more than €622,000. The finals will take place on May 7–8 in Malta during the 2026 edition of the event, which organizers expect to draw around 2,500 founders, investors, corporate leaders, and startup ecosystem participants.
The Pitch Competition is positioned as a central attraction of the two-day summit, alongside two main stages, a networking programme, and an exhibition hall. Organizers said fifteen seed and pre-seed startups will be selected from more than 1,600 applications to pitch live on the main stage in front of an investor jury and a large audience of investors, media, and startup community members.
What winners stand to gain: funding fast-tracks and tool credits
The prize package combines potential investment pathways with a broad set of product and service credits designed to help startups scale. The largest components are tied to investor access and acceleration opportunities.
Investment and accelerator opportunities
- Look AI Ventures: A funding opportunity of up to €250,000, with the winning startup fast-tracked to pitch directly to the firm’s investment committee, subject to due diligence.
- Techstars: A potential $220,000 investment via an accelerator programme, with the winner receiving a priority interview and review by the Techstars investment team and relevant managing director, also subject to due diligence.
Cloud, security, productivity, and developer tooling
In addition to funding pathways, the package includes credits and licenses aimed at reducing infrastructure and software costs for early-stage teams:
- IONOS: Up to €100,000 in cloud credits to support hosting and scaling.
- Cyscale: $24,000 in cloud security credits for monitoring and securing cloud environments.
- LUA AI: $12,000 in credits to build an AI agent for automating tasks and interactions.
- Make: €12,000 in value, including credits and consultation services for no-code workflow automation.
- Notion: Up to $12,000 in credits, including six months of a Business Plan with unlimited AI, plus access to Notion Perks and its Champions Community.
- JetBrains: €10,000 in licenses for development tools such as IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm, including JetBrains AI.
- D-ID: €9,900 for a Video Maker Enterprise plan (five-user package) with one year of use.
- Remote: $8,000 in credits to support international hiring and global payroll operations.
Event visibility
The winner will also receive €5,000 in value for an exhibition table at the EU-Startups Summit 2027, including three event tickets and a three-year club membership, giving the startup a follow-on platform to meet investors and partners.
Eligibility: pre-seed and seed startups under three years old
The competition is aimed at companies that are early in their fundraising and product journeys. According to the published criteria, applicants must be:
- Pre-seed or seed stage
- Less than three years old
- Have raised no more than €750,000 in venture capital
- Based in Europe, including EU member states and countries such as the UK, Norway, and Switzerland
How the finals will work on stage in Malta
Startups can apply online through the summit’s application link. Organizers said they will review submissions and select fifteen finalists to pitch at the summit in Malta. Each finalist will have three minutes on the main stage to present to an investor jury, with the audience expected to include investors, journalists, founders, and ecosystem stakeholders.
The format reflects the event’s effort to blend deal-making with visibility: founders get a high-profile stage, investors get a curated pipeline of early-stage companies, and the broader community gets a snapshot of emerging European startup themes.
Local backing: Malta’s ecosystem and long-standing business groups
The 2026 summit is again hosted in Malta, with the event highlighting local partners that support entrepreneurship and investment. Malta Enterprise, the country’s economic development agency, is listed among the event sponsors and is described as facilitating growth, investment, and innovation through support services for both local and foreign companies establishing operations in Malta.
Another sponsor, the M. Demajo Group, is presented as a diversified Maltese business group with a 115-year history and a workforce of around 500. Organizers noted the group’s expansion across sectors through organic growth, acquisitions, partnerships, and startups.
Why the competition matters for Europe’s early-stage pipeline
With more than 1,600 applications referenced by organizers, the Pitch Competition is positioned as a highly selective funnel for pre-seed and seed startups seeking capital, credibility, and customer traction. The combination of investor fast-tracks—via Look AI Ventures and Techstars—and operational credits from providers such as IONOS, JetBrains, and Notion underscores a broader trend in startup support: pairing financing pathways with practical tooling that can extend runway.
The finals in Malta will determine which startup converts that package into a concrete next step—whether that means securing investment, entering an accelerator, or using credits to accelerate product development and go-to-market execution.
