EU-Startups Pitch Competition prize package tops €1M

Prize pool expanded as EU-Startups Summit 2026 nears

The EU-Startups Summit Pitch Competition has crossed a new milestone, with organisers saying the total value of its prize package has now surpassed €1 million. The updated figure marks a sharp increase from an earlier estimate of more than €622,000, following the addition of new partners, expanded product credits, and further commercial opportunities.

The competition is scheduled to take place during the EU-Startups Summit 2026, set for May 7–8 in Malta. Organisers expect more than 1,600 applications this year, intensifying the race for one of 15 finalist slots that will pitch live on the event’s main stage.

Funding opportunities headline the package

At the centre of the expanded prize pool are multiple investment pathways aimed at pre-seed and seed-stage startups. The winner will be fast-tracked to pitch to Look AI Ventures, with an investment opportunity of up to €250,000, subject to due diligence and investment committee approval.

A second headline component comes from Techstars, which will provide the winning team with a priority interview for its accelerator network. If selected and following due diligence, the startup would be eligible to join a Techstars programme that includes a $220,000 investment package.

In addition, Malta Venture Capital is offering up to €434,000 in matching funding tied to the Look AI Ventures and/or Techstars investment, depending on eligibility. The matching component is aimed at companies with a Malta connection—those based in Malta, willing to relocate or establish a subsidiary there, or with a Maltese co-founder.

Cloud, security, and productivity credits add operational runway

Beyond direct funding, the prize package includes a broad set of credits and tools intended to reduce operating costs and accelerate product development. IONOS is contributing up to €100,000 in cloud credits, positioning the offer as a European infrastructure option for hosting and scaling.

Security support is also included. Cyscale is providing $24,000 in credits focused on cloud security monitoring, including detection of misconfigurations, vulnerabilities, and potential threats.

For automation and AI-enabled workflows, the package includes $12,000 in credits from LUA AI to build AI agents, as well as a combined €12,000 value from Make, split between platform credits and consultation services for no-code automation. Product and team tooling is further supported by up to $12,000 in credits from Notion, including six months on its Business plan with unlimited AI features and access to its perks ecosystem.

Sales, hiring, and developer tooling incentives

To support go-to-market execution, HubSpot is offering a 90% discount on its Startups Pro Suite, described as worth up to $25,000, alongside matched ad credits for LinkedIn and Google Ads via HubSpot and additional partner savings. Terms and conditions apply.

On the engineering side, JetBrains is contributing €10,000 in licences, including access to flagship development tools such as IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm, as well as JetBrains AI. Talent acquisition is also addressed through Remote, which is providing €10,000 in credits to help startups hire internationally, valid for 12 months.

Creative and marketing production support is represented by D-ID, offering its Video Maker Enterprise plan for one year (a five-user package valued at €9,900).

Additional exposure and future event value

The prize package also includes an exhibition table at the EU-Startups Summit 2027, valued at €5,000, which comes with three event tickets and a three-year CLUB membership—an element designed to extend visibility beyond this year’s competition.

Eligibility and application timeline

The competition is open to European startups at the pre-seed or seed stage that are less than three years old and have raised no more than €750,000 in venture capital. Eligible companies must be based in Europe, including EU member states and countries such as the UK, Norway, and Switzerland.

Fifteen finalists will be selected to pitch live in Malta, delivering a three-minute presentation to an investor jury and an audience that typically includes founders, investors, corporates, and media. Applications are open now and are set to close on February 8.

Event sponsors highlight Malta’s ecosystem push

Organisers also highlighted event sponsors tied to Malta’s broader positioning as a startup and investment destination. Malta Enterprise, the country’s economic development agency, is supporting the event as part of its mandate to attract investment and foster innovation. M. Demajo Group, a long-standing Maltese business group, is also listed among the sponsors.

IONOS separately promoted its Cloud Start-up Program, which offers up to €100,000 in credits for up to five years after founding and emphasises GDPR compliance and “Made in Germany” infrastructure.

Why it matters

With prize packages in startup competitions increasingly blending capital access with operational credits, the expanded EU-Startups offering reflects a wider trend: founders are seeking not only investment, but also practical tools that reduce burn and accelerate execution. For early-stage teams competing for visibility in a crowded funding market, the scale of the €1 million-plus package raises the stakes ahead of May’s Summit in Malta.
