Dialog Secures €3.7 Million to Transform E-Commerce with AI Agents

Paris-based Dialog has raised €3.7 million to enhance its AI shopping agents, aiming to revolutionize e-commerce experiences across Europe.

Funding to Enhance AI Shopping Agents

Dialog, a French startup located in Paris, has successfully completed a Seed funding round, raising €3.7 million (approximately $4.4 million). This investment will be utilized to develop sophisticated AI agents that leverage brand data to facilitate sales on e-commerce platforms and through conversational AI interfaces like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini. The funding round was spearheaded by Galion.exe, with additional contributions from Kima Ventures, Weaving Group, and various angel investors, including leaders from notable companies such as Criteo, Hugging Face, Alltricks, and AB Tasty. The startup has also garnered support from the innovation studio Hexa.

Antoine Grimal, co-founder and CEO of Dialog, remarked that traditional e-commerce sites have remained largely unchanged since the early 2000s, primarily functioning as databases. He highlighted how generative AI represents a significant opportunity to transform these platforms into engaging sales environments akin to physical stores.

AI in E-Commerce: A Growing Trend

The funding for Dialog aligns with a broader trend in Europe, where numerous startups focused on conversational AI for e-commerce have recently attracted significant investment. For instance, Merx in London received €1.1 million to create a platform for brands to engage consumers via messaging apps like WhatsApp. Meanwhile, the Prague-based startup TopK secured €4.6 million to develop an AI-driven search engine for enterprises, and Berlins Peec AI closed a €7 million Seed round to enhance its AI search capabilities. In total, approximately €13.7 million has been directed towards AI-enhanced search, conversational tools, and technologies aimed at improving website conversions across Europe this year.

Grimal noted that consumers are increasingly accustomed to interacting with AI, stating that if a website doesn’t offer this feature, shoppers might resort to asking AI models like ChatGPT instead. The shift from browsing through extensive categories to seeking immediate answers through inquiries is reshaping the online shopping landscape. To remain competitive, he asserted that brands must integrate AI into the core of their shopping experiences to cater to a new generation of consumers who prefer conversational engagement.

Dialog’s Innovative Approach to E-Commerce

Founded in 2022 by Grimal and Louis Pinsard, Dialog is at the forefront of e-commerce innovation with its AI agents, which are designed to embody brand representations, offer customer advice, and interact with other AI systems. The platform integrates seamlessly with major content management systems used by online retailers, enabling widespread deployment. Currently, Dialog is assisting over 300 e-commerce brands and has reportedly tripled the conversion rates for visitors who engage with its technology.

For example, at OhMyCream, the AI agent helps clients identify their ideal skincare routine through personalized analysis based on photos, while at Delsey Paris, it simplifies the often complicated task of selecting luggage compatible with various airlines. Furthermore, at MG Motor, the agent addresses inquiries about vehicle models and financing, directing potential buyers to schedule appointments at dealerships.

Grimal emphasized that AI will not replace brands, but rather reward those willing to adapt and rethink their customer engagement strategies. Unlike traditional chatbots that occupy a small corner of web pages, Dialog is integrated into the entire shopping experience, from product pages to homepages, ensuring a fluid and conversion-oriented journey. According to the company, Dialog has facilitated over 1 million conversations, generating more than 300,000 add-to-cart events, with 20% of visitors engaging in dialogue. Users who interact with Dialog see a threefold increase in conversion rates and a 25% boost in average order value, maintaining a 95% satisfaction rate in conversations.

This recent funding will accelerate Dialog’s product development and expand its commercial reach throughout Europe. Thibaud Elzière, a partner at Hexa, indicated that Dialog embodies the qualities they seek in a startup: a bold vision, a product that is reshaping its industry, and a capable team behind it. As the landscape of e-commerce continues to evolve, Dialog appears poised to play a significant role in its transformation.
