Capalo AI raises €11M to scale virtual power plant in Europe

Capalo AI lands €11 million Series A to expand grid-flexibility software

Capalo AI, a Helsinki-based sustainable technology company, has raised an €11 million Series A round to accelerate the rollout of its AI-powered virtual power plant (VPP) across Europe and scale the optimisation and trading of battery energy storage systems.

The round was led by Heartcore Capital, with participation from Tesi (Finnish Industry Investment) and full re-participation from existing investors VentureFriends, PROfounders, Inventure and Innovestor, alongside several family offices. The funding follows the company’s €500,000 pre-seed round in 2023.

Why investors are backing battery orchestration

Henri Taskinen, co-founder and CEO of Capalo AI, said Europe’s rapid renewable buildout is colliding with mounting grid constraints, arguing that “infrastructure alone cannot solve this challenge” and that intelligent orchestration of battery storage is becoming essential to maintain resilience as solar and wind capacity grows.

The raise comes amid sustained activity in Europe’s energy storage and optimisation ecosystem, where recent rounds for adjacent players have highlighted investor interest in tools that improve grid flexibility and battery utilisation. Against that backdrop, Capalo AI positions itself at the software-and-market-optimisation end of the spectrum, complementing capital-intensive battery deployment.

Scale-up plans and market expansion in 2026

Founded in 2022 by Henri Taskinen, Riku Kukkonen, Teemu Lappalainen and Eerik Jauhiainen, the company combines forecast data with AI models to optimise real-time trading across electricity markets. In 2025, it said its contracted battery capacity exceeded 1 GW, while revenue grew fivefold and headcount doubled.

Capalo AI is currently active in Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Lithuania and plans to enter additional European markets in 2026. The company works with infrastructure investors and independent power producers including FRV, RPC, Ardian-owned eNordic Evergreen and MW Storage.

Paulina Koschitz, principal at Heartcore Capital, described batteries as a “linchpin” for industrial competitiveness and said the company is building critical digital infrastructure to operate these assets at scale.
