Amperity’s Insightful Analysis on AI Usage in Travel and Airlines
In a recent study conducted by Amperity, a leader in AI-driven customer data solutions, the findings reveal that the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within the travel sector remains below expectations. The 2025 State of AI in Travel & Airlines report illustrates that a mere 35% of travel brands have incorporated AI into guest-facing services, and only 12.5% of these companies feel adequately prepared to scale this technology. This analysis comes at a crucial time, as the industry braces for the upcoming holiday travel season, which is expected to bring increased customer engagement and demand for innovative solutions.
The report is based on feedback from 800 professionals across various roles in the U.S. hotel and airline sectors, including executives from marketing, IT, and analytics. It highlights that while 41% of these organizations employ AI tools on a daily or weekly basis, the application of these technologies is predominantly confined to areas such as marketing, customer support, and sales. This limited adoption reflects a cautious approach to implementing AI directly with travelers.
Key Findings on AI Adoption and Challenges
The data from the report indicates a significant disparity in AI deployment among travel companies. While 80% of organizations have adopted AI in some form, the engagement with customers remains superficial. A substantial number of respondents, over one-third, noted the absence of formal AI training within their companies, complicating the safe and effective use of AI in guest interactions. Furthermore, more than half reported issues with fragmented customer data, which hampers the ability to leverage AI for personalized experiences.
Despite these challenges, the report underscores a growing optimism within the industry. A striking 96% of travel professionals anticipate either maintaining or increasing their AI investments over the next year. Tony Owens, CEO of Amperity, remarked that while investments in AI are on the rise, the true obstacle lies in establishing a robust connection to customer data. He emphasized that without a comprehensive understanding of customer identities and reliable data access, AI cannot deliver the personalized experiences travelers are increasingly expecting.
Strategies for Effective AI Implementation
Looking forward, the report outlines actionable strategies for travel brands eager to transition from experimental to operational AI models. Recommendations include unifying customer data across various touchpoints, streamlining data preparation processes, prioritizing guest-facing applications with measurable outcomes, and addressing training needs through role-specific initiatives. Derek Slager, co-founder and CTO of Amperity, stated that AI’s true value emerges when it operates on unified, privacy-conscious data, ensuring brands can confidently enhance customer interactions.
