Stockholm-based AlzeCure Pharma AB (publ) (FN STO:ALZCUR) recently released data from its Phase II clinical trial of ACD440, a potential new treatment for chronic pain. The full presentation from the NeuPSIG 2025 conference is now available on the company’s website.
The study showed ACD440 reduced temperature-induced pain by approximately 50 percent. This significant reduction is consistent with earlier Phase Ib findings. Dr. Märta Segerdahl, AlzeCure Pharma‘s project leader and CMO, highlighted the positive results, confirming the drug’s mechanism of action in patients.
Dr. Segerdahl‘s presentation at NeuPSIG 2025 included a post-hoc analysis of the Phase IIa trial data. This analysis focused on patients with chronic peripheral neuropathic pain. The results demonstrated ACD440‘s effectiveness, particularly in reducing heat-induced pain, a common and debilitating symptom for these patients.
ACD440 is a first-in-class TRPV1 antagonist. It’s being developed as a topical gel, minimizing systemic exposure while maximizing local concentration for sustained pain relief. The drug candidate, originally from a large pharmaceutical company, is based on Nobel Prize-winning research.
The company also announced that ACD440 received orphan drug designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of erythromelalgia. The FDA also provided positive feedback on a potential registration study for this rare disease.
