Nothing unveils Phone (4a) lineup starting at £349

Nothing launches Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro

London-based smartphone maker Nothing has introduced two new mid-range devices, the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro, aiming to stand out in a crowded market with bolder styling and upgraded display and camera features. Pricing starts at £349, positioning the lineup to compete in the value-focused segment while leaning heavily on design.

Brighter Glyph interface and faster displays

The new phones expand Nothing’s signature rear lighting system with brighter, mini-LED-based Glyph elements, designed to make notifications and alerts more visible and customizable. Both models also feature 144Hz displays, a spec more commonly associated with gaming-oriented devices, intended to deliver smoother scrolling and animations.

Camera emphasis with “140x zoom” marketing

On imaging, Nothing is promoting the lineup with claims of up to 140x zoom capability. While such figures often combine optical, digital, and computational techniques, the company is clearly signaling that cameras are a central part of the (4a) pitch—particularly as mid-range buyers increasingly expect flagship-like photography features.

A design-first mid-range push

Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, framed the launch as a response to what he described as “boring” smartphones, reinforcing the brand’s strategy of using distinctive industrial design and visual identity to differentiate. The (4a) series continues that approach, pairing recognizable aesthetics with competitive specs to win customers who want something different without paying premium prices.

The release underscores intensifying competition in mid-range smartphones, where brands are increasingly using high-refresh displays, aggressive camera marketing, and standout design to capture attention.
