Founders House Helsinki opens equity-free hub for startups

Founders House Helsinki launches equity-free workspace

Founders House Helsinki has opened a new equity-free workspace designed for 15 high-potential founding teams, with backing from Slush, Lifeline Ventures, and the City of Helsinki. The initiative is positioning itself as a high-intensity home base for early-stage builders, focused on increasing the “peer density” that many founders say is critical to scaling companies faster.

Backed by ecosystem heavyweights

The hub’s supporters span the private and public sectors, combining community-building experience with venture expertise and municipal support. Organizers said the model is intended to remove friction for founders by offering workspace without taking equity, allowing teams to preserve ownership while accessing a curated environment.

Led by alumni from Slush and Wave

The founding team includes former executives from Slush and Wave, bringing operational experience from two organizations known for international reach. Their goal is to replicate what has worked in other Nordic ecosystems—particularly Stockholm—where similar founder communities have reportedly helped nurture dozens of companies.

Aiming for Stockholm-style scale and national impact

Organizers pointed to Stockholm’s track record—often cited as supporting around 80 companies through comparable community density—as an ambition benchmark for Helsinki. The thesis is that placing strong teams together increases the speed of learning, fundraising readiness, hiring, and go-to-market execution through day-to-day peer feedback.

Beyond company formation, the initiative is also framed as an economic development play. By concentrating top founding teams and improving their odds of building enduring businesses, Founders House Helsinki says it aims to contribute to long-term growth in Finnish innovation output and, ultimately, Finland’s GDP.
