Thema secures $6.2M pre-seed to build AI market mapping
London-based Thema has raised $6.2 million in pre-seed funding to develop an AI-driven platform that maps global market structures and identifies expansion opportunities for private equity investors.
The round includes $4.5 million from venture capital firm Stride.vc and a $1.7 million government grant, according to details shared about the raise. The funding will support product development and the build-out of the company’s market intelligence capabilities.
Real-time “adjacency” data for expansion decisions
Thema is positioning its technology as a way to help private equity firms spot high-upside growth moves—described as potential “billion-dollar expansion plays”—by using AI to model how industries connect and evolve. The company’s focus is on producing real-time adjacency data, a term used to describe neighboring markets, categories, and segments that may represent logical next steps for portfolio expansion.
Rather than relying solely on traditional research reports or static market maps, the platform aims to continuously update how markets are structured and how companies relate across regions and verticals. For deal teams, this could translate into faster screening of new geographies, product lines, or customer segments, as well as clearer prioritization of where to deploy capital.
Early-stage bet on AI-native market intelligence
The pre-seed round signals growing investor interest in AI-native tools that compress the time and cost of strategic analysis for funds and corporate development teams. With backing from Stride.vc and public grant support, Thema will look to validate its approach with PE users seeking more dynamic, data-driven views of market structure and growth adjacency.
