BALO targets safer, smarter dog meetups in Vienna
Alion Çaçi, founder and CEO of Vienna-based pet-tech startup BALO, is seeking €300,000 in angel funding to launch what he describes as a “Tinder for dogs” — a swipe-based app designed to help dog owners pre-match compatible pets before meeting in parks.
Çaçi says the idea came from personal experience trying to manage interactions between his energetic Golden Retriever and smaller dogs. The startup is currently pre-revenue and has been bootstrapped by the founder. While no round has been formally priced, Çaçi said investor discussions assume a pre-seed valuation in the low single-digit millions of euros, citing comparable early pet-tech products with working apps and defined go-to-market plans.
Where the money will go
The planned raise is intended to fund roughly 18 months of execution. According to Çaçi, most of the capital would be allocated to product development, including the matching engine, safety features, and city-level operations tools. The remainder would support go-to-market efforts such as community management in initial neighborhoods, partnerships with vets and shelters, and performance marketing once retention is proven.
AI-assisted matching and privacy-by-design
BALO aims to differentiate from social “dog photo” apps and basic walker directories by focusing on real-world compatibility. The platform matches dogs based on behavior and needs—such as energy level, socialization history, and sensitivities—rather than relying primarily on breed or owner profiles. The prototype includes swipe-to-like and messaging, plus an AI assistant offering health tips and park hazard alerts.
On safety and privacy, Çaçi said location is not broadcast continuously. Instead, the app uses time-limited activity windows and owner-controlled sharing to avoid creating persistent location maps.
Testing in Vienna, then a clustered European rollout
The team plans to focus on deep user testing in Vienna throughout 2026, aiming to prove repeatable matches and consistent routines before expanding into a small cluster of European cities, likely across DACH and nearby markets. A future feature under consideration is in-app dog adoption, inspired by efforts to reduce stray dog populations.
