Avantyr Capital, Led by Viking Alum Jin, Aims for $1B AI Fund

Former Viking Global CIO Ning Jin’s new hedge fund, Avantyr Capital, has filed its initial ADV, signaling its approach to a targeted Q4 launch with a $1B AUM goal.

New Hedge Fund Prepares for Q4 Debut

Avantyr Capital, the much-anticipated hedge fund founded by former Viking Global Chief Investment Officer Ning Jin, is moving closer to its launch later this year. The firm has submitted its first Form ADV with regulators, a key step that provides a glimpse into its structure and strategy. The filing confirms the firm is headquartered at 450 Park Avenue in Manhattan and currently lists a team of 19 employees, including 10 investment professionals.

The fund is reportedly targeting a launch in the fourth quarter of 2025 and is seeking to raise a minimum of $1 billion in assets under management. Avantyr Capital will focus its investment activities on a range of sectors, including technology, media, telecommunications (TMT), consumer, financials, and industrials. Its core strategy combines rigorous fundamental analysis with the integration of alternative data sets and advanced, AI-powered analytical tools to identify investment opportunities.

A Veteran Team of Investment Professionals

Jin has assembled a formidable team by recruiting experienced talent from a number of leading hedge funds and private equity firms. The investment team is reported to include several notable names. Terrence Cheng, with prior experience at L2 Capital and Tybourne Capital, is slated to lead research for the industrials sector. Financials will be overseen by Adam Marcus, who joins from Maven and Tourbillon Capital.

Further strengthening the team are Lea Zhang from Coatue, who has a background in covering U.S. and Chinese technology and consumer companies; Christopher Parks, an analyst from the Tiger Cub firm Matrix Capital; Andrew Seketa, formerly an associate at Blackstone, who will serve as a TMT analyst; and Christopher Fletcher, who joins as an analyst from KKR. These new hires will work alongside early additions to the team, including former Viking analyst Alex Mendez and Sunjay Mishra, a previous executive at Tourbillon.

The firm’s senior leadership also includes Head Trader Niraj Bhatt, Head of Investor Relations Lauren Lyons, Chief Operating Officer Kelly Skura, and General Counsel Vanessa Di Simone.

A New Venture Rooted in Viking Tradition

Ning Jin founded Avantyr Capital after a distinguished 17-year career at Viking Global, which he departed in August 2024. The firm’s name is said to be inspired by the Italian word “avanti,” meaning “forward” or “ahead,” reflecting a forward-looking investment philosophy.

The launch of Avantyr Capital is part of a broader trend of senior executives from Viking Global establishing their own investment management firms. Jin now joins a prominent group of Viking alumni that includes Dan Sundheim of D1, Tom Purcell of Alua, and Ben Jacobs of Anomaly. With its blend of traditional research and cutting-edge technology, Avantyr Capital is positioned as one of the most significant hedge fund launches of 2025.
