Ronovo Surgical Secures $67M in Series D Funding

Ronovo Surgical closed its Series D funding round, raising $67 million led by Johnson & Johnson's JJDC. This follows a successful Series C round, bringing Ronovo's 2025 funding total to over $100 million. The company also announced a collaboration with Johnson & Johnson to expand Carina™ in China.

Ronovo Surgical, a developer of next-generation surgical robots, successfully completed its Series D funding round. The round secured $67 million in investment, led by Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation (JJDC). Other investors included Lilly Asia Ventures, INCE Capital, and Granite Asia.

This marks Ronovo‘s second significant funding round of 2025, following its Series C round earlier in the year. The company has now raised over $100 million in 2025.

Simultaneously, Ronovo Surgical announced a strategic collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Medical (Shanghai) Ltd. This partnership focuses on increasing access to advanced surgical technologies within a portion of the Chinese market.

The collaboration will allow hospitals in select Chinese regions to utilize Carina™, Ronovo‘s flagship modular robotic surgery platform, alongside other surgical technologies from Johnson & Johnson MedTech.

Carina™ received regulatory approval from China‘s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in March 2025. It is the first modular robotic surgical system in China approved for use in four major surgical specialties: general surgery, gynecology, urology, and thoracic surgery. The system’s modular design aims to improve flexibility, adaptability, and affordability compared to traditional robotic surgical systems.

Ronovo is also pursuing global expansion, with regulatory submissions underway in Europe and South America. Initial feedback from key international medical professionals has been positive, suggesting strong market potential for Carina™.

Ronovo Surgical‘s founder, chairman, and CEO, Dr. John Ma, expressed gratitude for the successful Series D funding and the collaboration with Johnson & Johnson. He highlighted Carina™‘s potential to increase access to robotic surgery globally. He also emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership in accelerating commercial growth in China and establishing a foundation for international expansion.
