Avenue Sports Fund Finalizes Major Capital Raise
In a significant financial milestone, the Avenue Sports Fund has officially closed with over $1 billion in capital commitments. This fund, managed by Avenue Capital Group, focuses on a broad spectrum of investment opportunities, including both debt and equity in various sports teams, leagues, and related businesses. The fund was initially launched in November 2023 and aims to capitalize on opportunities in established leagues, emerging leagues, and women’s sports.
The leadership of the fund is spearheaded by Marc Lasry, the Chairman and CEO of Avenue Capital Group. Lasry, who has a rich background in the sports sector as a former co-owner of the NBA‘s Milwaukee Bucks, brings valuable insights and extensive connections within the sports industry. His expertise, along with the adeptness of the Avenue sports investment team, facilitates strong relationships with athletes, teams, league executives, and franchise owners.
Diverse Investments Across Sports
Since its inception, the Avenue Sports Fund has actively engaged in various investments throughout North America and Europe. Among its notable acquisitions are stakes in the Bay Golf Club, part of a new golf league spearheaded by renowned golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. The fund has also invested in Trackhouse Entertainment Group, which operates a NASCAR Cup Series team as well as a MotoGP team, illustrating its diverse portfolio.
Further investments include a stake in Cosm, a company focused on immersive technology, and Ipswich Town Football Club, a participant in the English Championship League. Additionally, the fund supports initiatives like Mercury/13, which targets ownership in European women’s football franchises, and has invested in prominent entities like the PGA Tour Enterprises and the Baltimore Orioles.
